Recidivism rate is the rate of the amount of people who end up getting out of prison and then end up going back to prison. With about two-thirds (67.8%) of released prisoners returning back to jail within three years, and about three quarters (76.6%) going back within 5 years, the amount of recidivism is way too much. A program that has been created to help reduce the recidivism rate is the MINT program. MINT stand for Mothers and Infants Nurturing Together. This program is created for mothers who are low risk inmates with less than 5 years in the system. They receive 3 months to bond with their newborn baby. Another thing that can be done to reduce it in my is to be more tough on crime on the female prisoners. They have it off better than the males because they have children so they get many free things given to them, and I think they shouldn't have it so easy. They commit a crime and are then rewarded for it by giving them free stuff for their child. If they were tougher on crime, then I believe the recidivism rate would go down.
